Jewels, Before and After

The first picture is of Jewels (who we called "Judith") when she first arrived. She was rescued at auction from Camelot, saving her from facing killer buyers and being sent to the kill pen. Thin, muddy, and overwhelmed, this beautiful mare did not need to be destroyed and we were able to give her a second chance in life. Her stunning transformation is just one of many that inspires us to keep pressing on in our work. Jewels rescue was made possible by generous financial donations that allow us to obtain horses at auction and provide the care, food, vet, farrier, and dental visits rescue horses are so often in dire need of. Major’s Story

Major is not available for adoption. He has arthritis and requires corrective shoes. Major also suffers from COPD. While both of these conditions were known when he first came to us, these conditions were worsened by an untrustworthy person who adopted him and agreed to care for him following strict guidelines. However the person, Jerry Hayes from Frenchville ME, completely disregarded our instructions and broke Major down beyond repair. In breach of contract, he neglected, abused and the SOLD Major to an individual in Ft. Kent. Continue reading

Belle, The Story of A Rescued Percheron Horse

Belle is a Percheron mare that was rescued by FLFES in September 2010. She was starving and in very poor condition. Our first initial post reflected, "She's big, she's black, she's strong, and she's pushy. Still she has some loveable ways even now, and once she's had some TLC and training, she'll be a beauty." The "Angel" that bailed this pretty mare out of Camelot runs an antique/vintage shop in Lubec. Local folks, please stop by and say hello to Sherry Evers - she needs you to buy something because it just about emptied her bank account to get this horse to Maine. Continue reading
